Overview

Most electrical equipment falls with in the scope of both the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2004/108/EC).  Certain type of equipment falls with in the scope of only one of the directives.  The Low Voltage Directive sets the minimum safety requirements for electrical equipment and does not apply to electrical installations.  The Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive lays down the minimum requirements so that electrical equipment does not interfere with other electrical and telecommunications equipment.  It also lays down the maximum amount of harmonics that electrical equipment is allowed to inject into the electrical network.
