The work undertaken entails the maintenance of retained standards together with providing industry with a solid traceability chain. The local presence of the labs accomplishes three objectives:

  1. Provides a means of local knowledge transfer in the various measurement areas.
  2. Reduces the overall economic load for the acquisition of traceable measure in the same fields for all national stakeholders.  In the medium to long term, MSA-NMS will be a net cost saver for Maltese stakeholders.
  3. Facilitate the fulfilment of traceable calibration requirements for laboratories intending to become accredited.

MSA-NMS is an active full member of EURAMET – European Collaboration in Measurement Standards which is the European regional metrology organisation. The competancies of the lab are constantly measured up by intercomparisons conducted by the European NMI’s  in the various fundamental areas. The lab staff have acquired in depth training at several NMI’s namely – NPL (UK) , NML (Ir), INRIM (It), PTB (Ge), INTA (Sp), EIM (Gr)
