Welcome to MSA Environment

The commitment by the Malta Standards Authority (MSA) to improve the quality and environmental infrastructure in Malta is demonstrated through MSA's involvement in various activities related to the environment. MSA is in fact responsible for the following:

- Setting up and managing the National Committee for the Environment with a wide representation of stakeholders responsible to mirror work carried out at International and European Standard Organisations on the Environment

- Setting up and managing various technical committees carrying out standardisation work related to the theme of the environment such as:

o Technical Committee on Waste
o Technical Committee on Smoking in public places

- Participation of MSA staff in various national and international fora dealing with themes related to the environment. This representation includes but is not limited to the following:

o The National Biosafety Coordinating Committee
o The National Pesticides Control Board
o The National Organic Advisory Forum
o The EU Competent Authorities Joint Meeting on New and Existing Substances
o The EU Standing Committee on the Marketing Restrictions of Dangerous Substances
o The EU Working Group on Dangerous Preparations

- Certification of Farming using Organic Practices according to Council Regulation EEC 2092/91

Various Schemes related to the Environment

MSA through its directorates is the National Competent Body for various schemes related to the environment including:

- National EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) Competent Body responsible for the Registration of EMAS sites <GO TO EMAS SITE>

- Accreditation of EMAS verifiers by NAB-MSA (National Accreditation Body - Malta Standards Authority) <GO TO NAB-MSA SITE>

- National Competent Body for the European Eco-Label Scheme <GO TO ECO LABEL SITE>
